Gerald Olson (Jerry) was born in London, England. Jerry moved with his family to Colorado in February of 1997. His Mother is British and his Father is a native of Colorado. He and his family own and operate "Eagles Wings Ranch," home of Olson Performance Horses, a horse boarding and training facility. The facility is located just 25 miles east of Denver in the beautiful Rocky Mountain State of Colorado. When Jerry graduated from High School, he was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Board for having S.A.T. scores that ranked in the top 2% of the nation. As a result, he was recruited by some of the top Universities in the country, including Harvard, Air Force and MIT. Jerry was accepted into the prestigious Denver University believing that this would afford him the opportunity to be close to the business and do what he loved most, work with and train horses. As Olson Performance Horses started to take off more quickly than first anticipated, Jerry soon realized that he would have to make a choice in the direction that his career would take him. He chose his first love, the horses, believing that this is the path that he was meant to follow. At the young age of 22 he has already experienced success in the horse industry having numerous horses and clients in the top ten at some of the major shows in the US including The Reichert Celebration, NSBA World Show and also AQHA Congress. He specializes in training both Western and Hunt Seat Futurity Horses and is a Multiple Futurity Winner in both disciplines. Jerry's first Quarter Horse Congress win came recently when he was named the 2009 Congress Champion (NSBA) and Congress Reserve Champion (AQHA) in the Green Trail on his 5 year old filly Shes Bens Mercedes. "It was great to hear my name called as Champion and Reserve Champion at one of the most prestigious horse shows in the world and hopefully this is the first of many Congress wins". Another of his most recent successes was placing 3rd (tied for reserve) at the 2009 NSBA World Championship Show in the 3 year old Open Trail class, showing the 2006 filly Ima Lopin Ytoo Slow (owner, Mary Ellen Honeyfield). "I thought my 3 year old had a pretty good pattern, but considering all the high caliber horses and world champion riders in the class I wasn't sure where we'd end up. To be 3rd to Tommy (Sheets) and Bruce (Vickery) and finish in the company of some of the best trainers in the business was definitely rewarding." Both of these videos can be viewed on the winners page of our website. His young Hunt Seat horses have also had a great year including the 2 year old HUS filly Ive Never Been Blue (owner Karen Lee Manseth) who was Top Ten at the NSBA World Show and also made both the Limited and Open finals at this years (2009) Quarter Horse Congress. Jerry has also coached his youngest sister Kathryn who holds numerous Circuit Championships and top five placings at the Congress, including this year, where she was Top Five in both her HUS and Trail classes. So what makes it worthwhile to Jerry? "When I not only have personal success, but when I see my clients succeed it makes all the hard work worth while, plus I love working with the young horses and to see them develop and succeed is extremely rewarding to me." Jerry is an active member of the AQHA, APHA, AHA, NSBA and USEF.
